The following is New Features in Android Pie

  • User experience
Android Pie uses a refresh of Google’s “material design” language, which is informally referred to as “Material Design 2.0”. The overhaul provides more variance in aesthetics, prompting the creation of custom “themes” for the guidelines and basic components rather than the standard look. The bottom-aligned navigation bar is also more prominent.
  • Balei-balei
Android Pie introduces major changes to power management, uses algorithms to prioritize background activity by app based on long-term usage patterns and predictions, divides apps into “Active”, “Work Sets” (frequently run), “Frequently”, “Rare”, and “Never”. A similar “adaptive brightness” setting is adjusted automatically based on the detected lighting conditions. Both of these features were developed in collaboration with DeepMind.
