Third-party programs such as Adobe ZXPInstaller and ZXP Installer can also install these files. Another, Anastasiy Extension Manager, can install, remove, and update ZXP files. Since this package file is in a ZIP archive format, you can also open it with a zip/unzip tool like 7-Zip. Doing this won’t let you use it with Adobe programs, but it will let you see the various files and folders that make up the file.
You don’t really need to convert ZXP to ZIP because you can simply rename the file extension from . ZXP to .ZIP. Doing this will allow you to open the file in any file unzip tool that supports the ZIP format. If you need to do the opposite and convert the older MXP format to ZXP, use the Tools > Convert MXP extension to ZXP option on the Adobe Extension Manager CS6 menu.
If the file doesn’t open on your computer, there’s a good chance that you don’t have the proper Adobe programs needed to use it. If the extension has other files and folders associated with it, open CSXS and then manifest.xml in that folder. Inside the XML file is the section surrounded by the “HostList” tag. See which Adobe programs are listed there; it is the only one that can use certain ZXP files.
