What is GTX – GTX stands for Giga Texel Shader eXtreme and is a variant with the GeForce brand owned by Nvidia. They were first introduced in 2008 with the 200 series, codenamed Tesla. The first products in this series were the more expensive GTX 260 and GTX 280.

The introduction of these cards also affected the naming scheme and from the release of these cards onwards, Nvidia GPUs used a naming scheme that had GTX/GT as the prefix followed by the model number.

With every other major release in the series, Nvidia is changing its microarchitecture on which its cards are based i.e. the 200 & 300 series are based on the Tesla architecture, the 400 & 500 series are based on the Fermi architecture and so on. The new GTX 16 series, consisting of the GTX 1650, GTX 1660, GTX 1660Ti, and their Super counterparts. It is based on the Turing architecture and was introduced in 2019.

GTX represents the GTX version of the Gigar Texel Shader iXtreme GPU, a well-known microarchitecture based on Turing code. In addition, NVIDIA GeForce GTX focuses on providing a highly effective graphical user interface when playing games on PC using Turing code.
